This Wednesday and Thursday, 14th and 15th of December, the fourth BDE Plenary took place in the premises of the University of Leipzig in Augustusplatz.
Representatives of all the Partners were present and presented the progress for each work package in relation to the project’s objectives, milestones and tasks. Taking in consideration that soon the final year of the project will start, the current and future progress of the project, as well as stakeholder engagement, community building, dissemination and exploitation opportunities were jointly discussed. The technical partners presented the pilots’ progress and various technical solutions were provided by the attending partners. Furthermore the Hellenic Institute of Transport, from the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas CERTH, has been approved as a new BDE Consortium member, and will be proposed to join via an amendment.
The next Plenary Meeting will be hosted by VU Amsterdam and will take place in Amsterdam, in June 2017.
BDE was represented very succesfully by Dr. Simon Scerri at the BDVA Valencia Summit with the theme Big Data driving business.
In fact two Sessions were dedicated to BDE (the slides are linked here). The first Session focused on BDE’s Integrator Platform, presenting it as the one-stop solution for Big and Smart Data Management. In the second Session, the 7 Societal Pilots were presented. Around 15 attendees attended present in the two consecutive sessions (due to the intense schedule and variety of the parallel sessions, very few of the participants attended both). The exercise proved useful to further disseminate current and future results of the project, by demonstrating the hands-on use of the platform as well as the results achieved by customising it for the seven different pilot use-cases.
With over 300 attendees from Industry, Academia, Public Administration, data owners and users, this Summit also presented a key occasion for the BDE team present to meet and engage with Big Data stakeholders in Europe, influencing thus the development of the European Big Data Ecosystem.
