It is a fact that the re-use of Open Data can generate diverse benefits, ranging from increased performance at the public administration level and economic growth in the private sector, to the improvement of the social welfare. According to this study on Creating Value through Open Data, the “direct market size of Open Data is 55,3 bn EUR for 2016 and expected to grow by 36,9% by 2020 in the EU 28+”.
In this context, the European Data Portal, which is developed by the European Commission with the support of a consortium led by Capgemini, including INTRASOFT International, Fraunhofer Fokus, con terra, Sogeti, the Open Data Institute, Time.Lex and the University of Southampton, harvests the metadata of Public Sector Information, available on public, national, regional and local data portals across European countries, without excluding certain datasets.
