BDE SC6 workshop on 5.12 in Cologne – 05/12/16 – The Challenges of Big Data for societies in a changing world

December 5, 2016 @ 14:00 - 17:30

Monday 5th December, 2016: 14:00 – 17:30 pm CET

This workshop of the Big Data Europe (BDE, project is workshop #2 for Societal Challenge 6 (SC6) that is about Social Sciences and Digital Humanities.

The BDE team will introduce the project (status) to the participants and SC6 best practise examples for Big Data will be presented. Then the BDE team explains and demonstrates the Big Data Europe Aggregator Platform to the audience and will answer arising questions.

The central theme of this workshop is the SC6 Pilot: Citizens Budget on Municipal Level – built on the BDE Platform – that will be demonstrated and discussed. Increased number of municipalities are publishing Budget Execution Data (income and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly basis). Clear and simple summary guides are needed along with raw data for citizens, researchers and decision makers in order to make informed decisions about the use of data. At the moment we are dealing with data from three municipalities budget execution data in detail (accounting level). Further data from additional data sources should be integrated in the 2nd step of the Pilot realisation.

Finally, all participants are invited to bring up SC6 big data use cases and examples, and to further discuss current challenges and requirements in efficient data management for SC6.
