On June 14, BigDataEurope’s Transport Societal Challenge (SC4) held their first hangout for 2017 entitled Empowering Mobility Management with Big Data. The hour-long webinar was also the first organised by SC4 after the launch of BigDataEurope’s open-source Integrator Platform (BDI) in May.
The webinar, which was attended by over 20 people with Maxime Flament of ERTICO moderating, gave a status update of BigDataEurope’s Integrator Platform and Transport Challenge’s pilot work on streaming sensor network and geospatial data integration using the BDI. A live demo also highlighted SC4’s latest work at the pilot site in Thessaloniki.
Simon Scerri from Fraunhofer IAIS began by giving an introduction to the BigDataEurope project’s objective and work towards Integrating Big Data, Software & Communities for Addressing Europe’s Societal Challenges, and some of the plans until the end of the year when the project comes to an end.
Josep Maria Salanova Grau presented machine learning algorithms from the mobility use case in Thessaloniki where BDI is being used to allow reliable prediction of traffic conditions on a 24/7/365 basis.
Finally, Luigi Selmi presented a live demo of the pilot to give insights into the technologies and applications involved.
The interactive webinar the audience was polled on five questions about the sectors represented, data providers, data output, etc.
