On behalf of the BigDataEurope project (BDE), we would like to invite you to our next SC5 webinar (online hangout), to take place on Tuesday, 4 July 2017, at 11:00 CET. The webinar will take up to one hour.
During this online hangout, we will present the 2nd BDE SC5 pilot, which is a methodology for rapid estimation of the location of an unknown source emitting a hazardous substance in the atmosphere. The pilot is an alternative to the classic inverse “source-term” estimation methods that are rather computationally slow to be applied at the first stages of emergency management. The pilot is based on prior analysis of multiple years of weather data, of corresponding calculated atmospheric dispersion from a number of potential emission sources and of measurements indicating the presence of the substance. The specific use case concerns nuclear events and therefore considers dispersion from hypothetical accidents in European nuclear power plants.
During the webinar, we will present the scope and background of the pilot, the methodologies employed, the data and results. The user-interface and functionality will be demonstrated and the participants will have the opportunity for a hands-on testing.
A provisional agenda is as follows:
- Scope of the pilot, rationale and background
- Methodology, data and results
- Demonstration of functionality and hands-on testing
- Open discussion
