The 4th BDE Plenary Meeting took place in the beautiful city of Bergen, on the 21st and 22nd of June 2016 and was hosted by the BDE Partner CESSDA. This time, 15 BDE Partners participated with 27 attendees in total. The opportunity was provided to present, discuss and exchange further on the Project’s progress, impact areas, achievements and results in terms of the seven Societal Challenges (SC), i.e. Climate, Energy, Food, Health, Transport, Security, and Social Sciences, and their Big Data focus areas.
The progress status of each one of the 7 BDE Work Packages was presented, confirming that the Project progresses according to the outlined schedule and in congruence with the targeted goals and expectations. Internally, the BDE Consortium is preparing for its first (mid-term) Project Review by the European Commission, scheduled for September 2016.
Significant progress has been achieved with reference to the BDE Pilots. The first developed and tested pilot demonstrations were presented internally at the plenary. Thanks to this substantial progress, many individual SC Pilot demonstrations and collective hands-on trials are planned for the second half of this year. Preparations for the second round of 7 workshops as well as for various online hangouts, are in full swing. The 7 workshops will be announced within the next weeks. The next SC-wide BDE Webinar is set to be organised in collaboration with the Big Data Value Association (BDVA) after the Summer. Moreover, a hands-on Pilot tryout will be conducted during a major technical event. More information and details about the venues will be published soon. Therefore stay tuned!
