WHAT: BDE Webinar on ‘New General Data Protection Regulation Adopted’
WHEN: 25.5.2016, 15.00pm CEST
WHERE (Info & Registration): http://bit.ly/1UgyyLP
On April 14 the European Parliament adopted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which was presented by the European Commission in January 2012. The Regulation shall apply 2 years after its formal adoption by the European Parliament and Council which now is the case. The regulations for processing personal data affect large areas of European research and are of great importance to the scientific communities and research infrastructures of Europe.
The demand for stronger protection and harmonization of rules and practices across Europe, has been an important driving force behind the proposed data protection regulation in EU.
The question is now is how the new legislation balances the interest in privacy against the use for historical, statistical and scientific purposes. It is also whether the regulations, in line with the legislators’ intention, ensure greater harmonisation and standardisation in the field of data protection and thus make it easier to exchange data and stimulate increased research collaboration across national boundaries.
This presentation will take a closer look at these issues, discussing how the new GDPR will affect data collection, data use, data preservation and data sharing.
After the presentation a moderated Q&A Session opens the floor to the webinar participants to raise & discuss questions on the topic!
The European Commission would like to draw your attention to a public online survey which will be closing on 30.12.2015
The survey gives you a unique chance to have your voice heard on a range of topics with a direct impact on the future of EU’s actions in the field of the data economy.
The issues under consultation range from the social and economic role of online platforms to the legal arrangements used in assigning rights to data.
Please note that you do not need to answer all the questions: except for the introductory stage, you are free to focus on the thematic block of your choice. You are particularly encouraged to fill-in the part of the questionnaire on ‘data and cloud in digital ecosystems’.
